The month of April saw the band preparing for two concerts at Barton and Gt Eccleston, which will have been and gone by the time you read this. We were still without a Musical Director, so preparation for these concerts was a little ad hoc, with the help of Jack Isles and Steve Tarry who put together a programme of both traditional and more modern music. Guest conductor Ian Bateson took the band for the concert performances and at Gt Eccleston, we were supported and entertained by long time friend of the band, Jack Benson.
At the band's AGM recently, we had a change of officials. The band Secretary is now Emily Hallett who has held that post previously, taking over from Jack Isles who has become Vice-Chairman. Emily's contact details can be found on the band website.
Two of our members have recently taken part in a training workshop held by Hexham Band (why Hexham?....don't ask, it's a long story). On Saturday 14th April, Helen Woodruffe-Burton and Jack Isles were there for a Bass and Euphonium sectional rehearsal, which went on from 10am until 5pm with a short break for lunch, followed by a concert by the full band from 6:30 until 7:30. The training was done in conjunction with members of East London Brass, who are a Championship Band in the south east. The work was very intensive and both our people confess that it was the hardest day's banding that they have ever done!
We shall be starting the marching season in earnest with Preesall's Civic Sunday on 3rd June followed on 4th June by the Garstang Children's Festival. We look forward to supporting these local events and hope that you will come along too.
