The band has attended three engagements recently, two of which were Harvest Festivals at Calder Vale and Pilling respectively.
Calder Vale church is in a lovely setting and it was a warm sunny afternoon, which added to the pleasure of just being there, not to mention the refreshments kindly provided by the ladies of the parish.
At Pilling, we were joined by George Newsham, a player who was a member in the 1970s but who now plays with Lancaster Brass. George pops up from time to time and we often have a smile about the old days.
On September 16th the band presented a concert for Pilling WI at the Memorial Hall, Pilling. It was great to play to a packed house in our home village. The programme first half consisted of popular concert pieces, then after the interval, the theme was "the Last Night of the Proms", ending with the inevitable "Land of Hope and Glory". The audience were quite enthusiastic and we have already been booked again to appear next year on 14th September 2012.
Some bad news is that second cornet player Wendy Longworth is suffering from a serious viral infection and has had to give up playing for a while, we wish her a speedy recovery and hope that she is able to rejoin us soon.
The last bit of good news is that the band is pleased to welcome Ray Taylor of Garstang as a much needed addition to our ranks. Ray played with Brindle Band some years ago and presently plays trumpet in a Big Band. He is trying the tenor horn for us at present, but will slot in for us wherever needed. Welcome aboard Ray!
