Pilling Jubilee Silver Band

Band 75th Anniversary Concert

The end of last month saw the band's 75th anniversary concert which was a great success, St Oswald's church hall being filled to capacity. The band played a very varied programme of music ranging in period and style from the 18th century, right up to the present day, with a new composition by percussionist Paul Lovatt-Cooper entitled “Walking with Heroes”.

We were pleased to welcome back some previous members to play with us, as well as a few guest players from other local bands.

Several of our regular members performed solo items, all to a very high standard.

It was especially good to have with us Mr Richard Jenkinson, now in his 90s, who is one of only two surviving founder members of the band from 1935. He kindly cut the 75th birthday cake for us, but complained to his son Joe that “the euphoniums and baritones were too loud”! You can't fool an old 'un.

The proceedings were presented by Neil Redman, son of TD Redman who conducted the band for many years and taught many of our players as youngsters. Neil regaled us with many tales of the band's past when he was a prominent member playing euphonium and trombone.
